The Madison community was saddened to learn of Doug Toma’s death on May 4, 2011. J. Douglas Toma graduated from Utica Eisenhower High School and moved into Case Hall the Fall of 1982 as a first-year. Dixie Platt remembers Doug and his roommate Michael Brown working in "the pit" at the JMC table helping students with drops and adds. Mike Brown calls Doug the "best roommate you could ever have" and a friend forever.
Doug was a friend to many at MSU and especially JMC. To remember Doug, his friends have created a special scholarship at James Madison College to recognize Outstanding Roommates and Case Hall Residents. It is the first scholarship of its kind to reward students for excellence in residential living at MSU. Given Doug’s outstanding career in academia, including being the Dean of Franklin Residential College at the University of Georgia, the scholarship is a meaningful way to remember Doug and his legacy.
