MC 100: The First-Year Experience

MC 100 is a one-credit, pass/fail course required of all incoming first-year and transfer James Madison College students beginning Fall 2026. The course introduces students to the academic culture and resources of JMC and helps them build a foundation for success at the beginning of their college journey. By the end of the semester, students will be better informed, more confident and prepared to thrive in this next stage of their intellectual growth.

The course is hybrid, combining online modules with six in-person sessions held in Case Hall over the fall semester. Online modules pair assigned readings with video lectures and quizzes completed on a flexible schedule. In-person sessions provide an opportunity to connect with JMC faculty, staff, alumni and upper-level students.
