The James Madison College Academy for Civic Education (JMC-ACE) is now accepting applications from Michigan high school students to participate in its Summer 2026 programming on Michigan State University campus (tentative: July 12-24, 2026).
Rising seniors from across Michigan are invited to apply to spend two weeks immersed in college-level seminars exploring American democracy.
- Daily seminars led by JMC faculty
- Small discussion groups (12-15 students) focused on primary texts
- Co-curricular programming including field trips and cultural activities in Michigan's capitol region
- Residential college experience living in MSU residence halls
Program Details
- When: Two weeks in summer 2026 (tentative: July 12-24, 2026)
- Participants: 20-25 rising high school seniors
- Cost: Completely free, including travel stipends
- Housing: MSU residence halls with all meals provided
- Format: Small seminars with JMC faculty
Eligibility
Michigan residents who will be entering their senior year of high school in Fall 2026 are eligible to apply.
Application
The online application consists of four sections:
- Personal Information
- Education
- Reference Letter: Applicants will share contact information for one referee, who will receive a prompt by email to submit their letter of reference.
- Essay Questions:
- Why are you interested in attending JMC-ACE? (250 words)
- The Declaration of Independence says that all people are endowed with the inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. What does the pursuit of happiness mean to you? (300 words)
Application Deadline: Application materials are due March 1, 2026. Application review will begin after March 1. Applicants can expect to receive a decision by April 15.
