Rob Shriver, acting director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), visited James Madison College this week, offering students a unique opportunity to learn about careers in the federal government. The event marks the beginning of an OPM college recruitment tour aimed at attracting young talent to government roles.

Shriver met with MSU students in Case Hall to discuss the range of opportunities in federal careers and share his own experiences working for the government. He highlighted over 600 federal job openings in Michigan and recent improvements to employee benefits and pay.

JMC alum Holly Whelan (Social Relations, ’99), a senior advisor at OPM, worked with Madison’s Career Services and Field Experiences Offices to help facilitate the visit.

JMC Dean Cameron Thies noted the importance of such events in connecting Madison students with potential careers in public service.

“As we prepare the next generation of leaders, events like these are crucial in bridging the gap between academic excellence and future careers in public service,” said Thies. “This event exemplifies our commitment to fostering meaningful career pathways through the support of our strong alumni network.”
