Video series highlights Madison student perspectives

Summary

The new JMC Student Stories series features interviews with six Madisonians discussing their experiences at MSU.

As a high school student in Dubai, Aaron had never heard of James Madison College. It wasn't until midway through his first year at MSU that he discovered the small residential college specializing in public policy and international affairs. "As soon I stepped into Case Hall, I fell in love with JMC," he describes.

Aaron is one of six current students featured in the college's new JMC Student Stories series, where students discuss their journeys to JMC, their experiences at the college and what they're hoping to do after graduation.

Featured students include:

  • Aaron, a junior studying Comparative Cultures and Political Science/Pre-law, who came to MSU as an international student from Dubai. He discusses his journey to JMC as a first-year transfer student, exploring the college's majors and his experience as an international student.
  • Katie is a junior studying Social Relations & Policy, along with Criminal Justice. Katie shares her perspectives on coming to MSU from her small hometown in Michigan and her career aspirations to work in intelligence and national security.
  • Sydney is a senior majoring in International Relations and Comparative Cultures & Politics. Sydney discusses her opportunities to travel to India, Belgium, New York City and Washington, D.C. (twice) during her time as a JMC student.
  • Sammy is a sophomore majoring in Social Relations & Policy and Political Theory & Constitutional Democracy. Sammy discusses his career aspirations within the field of politics and his involvement on campus with W.E.B. DuBois Society and James Madison College Student Senate.
  • Andrea is a sophomore majoring in Comparative Cultures & Politics and International Relations and minoring in Chicano/Latino Studies. She shares about her journey to JMC, participating in the Early Start program and how the college aligns with her career aspirations to become an immigration lawyer.
  • Conner is a senior, studying Social Relations & Policy. Conner works within JMC's recruitment office and coordinates pre-college programming for Lansing high school students.
