Michigan State University has announced the 2023 nominees for the following prestigious awards: the Marshall Scholarship, the Rhodes Scholarship and the George J. Mitchell Scholarship.
Alissa Hakim, an Honors College senior majoring in political theory and constitutional democracy, and arts and humanities in RCAH; Maren Nicolaysen, an Honors College senior majoring in international relations, and economics in the College of Social Science; and Zahra Ahmad, a 2022 graduate who majored in comparative cultures and politics, are among 10 undergraduate students and two alumni nominated for the Marshall Scholarship.
The Marshall Scholarship supports students attending graduate school in the United Kingdom. The results of this competition will be determined in the coming months.
Ahmad and Nicolaysen are nominees for the Rhodes Scholarship as well. In total, MSU nominated six undergraduate students and two alumni for the Rhodes Scholarship, which supports students attending the University of Oxford in the U.K.
Ethan Biederman, an Honors College senior triple majoring in international relations, and comparative cultures and politics in James Madison, and Arabic in the College of Arts and Letters, is one of two nominees for the Mitchell Scholarship. The Mitchell Scholarship suppors students attending graduate school in Ireland.
The results for the three scholarship programs will be determined in the coming months.
The Distinguished Student Awards Office (formerly National/International Fellowships and Scholarships Office), administered by the Honors College, helps undergraduate and graduate students pursue major national and international opportunities by providing information and direct support throughout the competitive application processes.
