Over the last few months, many university and college units have celebrated the contributions and achievements of Spartan faculty, staff and students. James Madison College, or JMC, is proud to have several students and faculty members honored recently.
On May 8, Daniel Ahlquist, assistant professor in James Madison, became JMC’s 18th faculty member to receive the prestigious Teacher-Scholar Award during the 2022-23 All-University Awards Convocation. Each year, up to six Teacher-Scholar Awards are conferred on MSU tenure system faculty from the ranks of assistant professor and associate professor who early in their careers have earned the respect of their students and colleagues for their devotion to and skill in teaching.
Professor Norman Graham was awarded the Ralph H. Smuckler Award for Advancing International Studies and Programs, an honor bestowed upon MSU faculty and staff members who demonstrate a significant commitment to international activities. Graham accepted his award during the 2023 MSU International Awards at Spartan Stadium on April 5.
Raquel Acosta (SRP ’23), earned her degree in social relations and policy, and Spanish, was recognized on behalf of the student organization dreaMSU, which advocates for more inclusive policies for immigrant and undocumented communities. Acosta is president of dreaMSU and received the Cosechando Racies Award, MSU Latinx Grassroots Student Organization of the Year, during the César Chávez and Dolores Huerta Commemorative Celebration held on March 31 at the Kellogg Center. The award is presented to a registered student organization that has distinguished itself during its first two years of existence on campus.
Hadley Lloyd (PTCD ’23) and Ishaan Modi (SRP ’23) were honored with the Board of Trustee Award for earning a 4.0 cumulative GPA throughout their college career at MSU. Lloyd graduated from the Honors College with a double major in political theory and constitutional democracy from JMC and Spanish from the College of Arts and Letters. Modi also graduated from the Honors College and earned his degrees in social relations and policy from James Madison and history, philosophy and sociology of science in Lyman Briggs College.
JMC’s Alexie Milukhin (SRP ’23) was awarded the Richard Lee Featherstone Endowed Prize, which is a $4,000 cash award given to an outstanding graduating senior. Milukhin was presented the award by Mark Largent, associate provost for undergraduate education, during JMC spring commencement on May 6.
