2024 NSO

Summer New Student Orientation will welcome and prepare students starting at MSU in the fall semester. NSO will occur in stages and will begin as students gain access to content in MSU's D2L platform. Once a student has completed that content, they will be granted access to schedule an academic advising session with a JMC advisor. Please monitor your MSU email for instructions on making this appointment. Students will get one appointment in June or July to discuss their academic priorities and goals with the JMC advisor as they work together to plan the student's first year fall semester schedules (you will enroll for spring semester starting in early November).

Steps for NSO Advising & Enrollment:

1. Pre-Advising Meeting (Online): Attend a pre-advising zoom meeting on Tuesday May 21st at 7pm or Wednesday June 5th at 12pm. If you cannot attend, a recording of the session will be posted online by June 7th.

Please make sure you have attended or watched the recording before your advising appointment. We will be discussing, in detail, degree requirements and choices that students will be making about classes during enrollment. Our goal is to prepare you to make informed decisions when the time comes to enroll.

5/21 and 6/5 Zoom Info:

Meeting ID: 986 6508 4471

Passcode: 5861617

2. Schedule Advising Appointment: When students have completed their MSU New Student Orientation modules on Desire2Learn, we will contact them via email with instructions for scheduling their JMC advising appointment. These emails are usually sent within 5 business days of completing the modules. If you have not been contacted within 5 business days, please email thornh12@msu.edu. Both in-person and on-line options for appointments will be available for summer 2024.

3. Placement Exams: Make sure that you have completed the MSU math placement assessment. If you plan to continue with a language that you studied in high school, please also take the language placement assessment.

4. Homework: Complete the JMC Homework Document to help both you and your advisor prepare for your appointment. Once completed, send the document to the advisor you will meet with at NSO. Check your registration confirmation email for that information. The 2024 Homework Documents will be posted here by 5/21, please check back soon.

If you have questions or concerns, or for accommodations related to any of these activities, please contact Lindsay Snyder at thornh12@msu.edu. Students are encouraged to visit MSU's NSO website for additional details about the program, as laid out by the university's central orientation office.
