Jack PaynterJack Paynter was a talented teacher, a gifted leader and generous friend.  He helped to build James Madison College during its formative years as a faculty member from 1969 to 1982.  Professor Paynter died in April 2005 at the age of 66.

Jack's colleagues and students remember him fondly.  In March of 2006, they gathered at James Madison College to celebrate Jack's life and his many contributions to their education, their lives and to James Madison College.

In addition, his family, friends, students and colleagues are raising funds to continue Jack's legacy at James Madison College.  The first goal was accomplished by naming and renovating the Jack Paynter Seminar Room on North Case Hall with the latest high tech classroom and conferencing equipment. The second goal has created the endowed lectureship in Jack's name to bring renowned speakers to the college. Madison has raised over $129,000 to fund the Paynter Lecture Fund. As of fiscal year 2024, the annual investment income of over $7,000 supports the annual lecture.
