MSU nominates two students for Gaither Junior Fellows program

January 17, 2024

Michigan State University has nominated two students for the nationally competitive James C. Gaither Junior Fellows program

This fellowship, funded by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, selects approximately 15 students for one year of funding and a placement as a research assistant to a senior scholar. Senior scholars include academics, former government officials, lawyers and journalists from around the world.

Both MSU nominees are seniors pursuing degrees from James Madison College. They are:

  • Noon Bannaga, who is double-majoring in International Relations alongside Comparative Cultures and Politics.
  • Sophia Strach, from Muskegon, Michigan, who is majoring in Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy.

The Distinguished Student Awards Office (formerly National/International Fellowships and Scholarships Office), administered by the Honors College, helps undergraduate and graduate students pursue major opportunities such as the James C. Gaither Junior Fellows program by providing information and direct support throughout the competitive application processes.
