Give Green Day: JMC Emergency Scholarships Meet Critical Needs
James Madison College students are experiencing an unprecedented need for emergency support during the coronavirus pandemic. One quarter of JMC students have contacted the college and MSU with emergency needs since March of 2020. Through December, the college has awarded $53,532 in Emergency Scholarships to our students. This doubles what the college traditionally spends over a 12-month academic year, and the need continues.
To replenish funds and meet future student needs, Madison College will ask alumni and friends to generously support Emergency Scholarships throughout Give Green Day on March 16th. MSU encourages all colleges and units to participate in crowd funding campaigns to meet important funding needs and display the generosity of Spartans everywhere. The JMC Emergency Scholarship giving site is visible here. It will become operational to accept gifts at 12:01am on March 16th.
“We created the Emergency Scholarships almost two decades ago to help students stay in school. Unfortunately, the emergency needs have continued each year, especially during the 2008 Financial Crisis and now during the pandemic. Students receive assistance with tuition, food, healthcare expenses, housing, all to maintain their wellbeing and persevere towards graduation. We want our students to get the most from their Madison education. With the onset of the pandemic, the need for emergency funds has increased dramatically.
