Alumnus Richard Cordray Named Head of Federal Student Aid

Richard Cordray, former Ohio Attorney General and former head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, has been appointed to serve as the top official overseeing the federal government's portfolio of student loans and array of financial aid programs. Cordray's appointment was announced by Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, who praised his "strong track record as a dedicated public servant who can tackle big challenges and get results."  

Richard Cordray earned his degree from James Madison College in Justice Morality and Constitutional Democracy. He also is a graduate from MSU’s Honors College, earning Phi Beta Kappa honors and graduating summa cum laude. As a Marshall Scholar, he earned an MA with first class honours in Economics from Brasenose College, Oxford, and then his JD from the University of Chicago Law School in 1986.
