Louis Hunt

Professor Louis D. Hunt retired in 2022 after 30 years teaching in the Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy field at James Madison College. He received his Ph.D. from Boston College in 1992 and was a Fulbright Graduate Scholar at the University of Erlangen in 1986-1987.

During fall 2007, Hunt was a visiting lecturer in politics at the Central Institute for Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, India. Professor Hunt wrote on a wide range of political theorists, including Kant, Habermas, Hegel and Hayek. His primary area of interest was the nature of modern civil society. He was interested as well in the relation between Eastern and Western thought and the nexus between art and politics.

In addition to his scholarly work, Professor Hunt has published both original poetry and translations of poems from Sanskrit.
