Skills Seminar #2: Cultivating Meaningful Professional Relationships

Wed, October 23, 2024 6:00 PM - Wed, October 23, 2024 7:30 PM at JMC Library (332 Case Hall)

Building relationships is a powerful way to gain insights into professions, receive mentorship and support, and access “hidden” opportunities that are often known only through referrals and personal connections. But how do you begin to form a networking strategy?

Join James Madison College’s Career Services and Field Experience Offices for the second of three Skills Seminars: Cultivating Meaningful Professional Relationships. As a result of this workshop, students will be able to:

  • articulate the value of maintaining a professional online presence to support career exploration and internship/job searches;
  • describe approaches to curating and managing a professional online presence;
  • implement strategies for finding relevant connections using existing relationships, alumni, and searches related to interests and goals;
  • and initiate appropriate and effective communication with professional connections.

Register to attend via Handshake >>

Students who complete all three seminars will receive coaching on how to list the professional development skills gained through the series on their professional documents and online profiles. Karissa Chabot-Purchase and Lauren Michalak are also working on a process to award LinkedIn badges for completing the series that they hope to roll out later this academic year.
