Murray Scholar: InFormation for Intersectionality

Mon, October 14, 2024 5:00 PM - Mon, October 14, 2024 6:00 PM at JMC Library (332 Case Hall)

James Madison College proudly welcomes alumna Megan Threats (PTCD & CCP ’11) as the 2024-25 Stephen O. Murray Scholar in Residence.

Threats will present her first workshop as part of the Murray Scholar in Residence program on Oct. 14 at 5 p.m. in the JMC Library (S332 Case Hall, 842 Chestnut Road, East Lansing).

Threats, an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Information, brings a wealth of experience in community-based health informatics research to improve the health and well-being of marginalized communities. Her work focuses on addressing health and information inequities among LGBTQ+ and racial/ethnic minority groups.

In this talk, Threats will discuss the origins of intersectionality and how she employs it as a critical theoretical and methodological approach to understanding the impact of racism, sexual orientation discrimination, and other systems of oppression on the health information practices and healthcare engagement among Queer BIPOC communities in the United States.
