Alex Haley Room Grand Opening

Join the W.E.B. Du Bois Society as they host the grand opening of the newly renovated Alex Haley Room!

 

The Alex Haley Room has significant historical ties to James Madison College, especially for Black Madisonians. The room has provided students with a space to connect, study, as well as simply rest. Over the years, ownership of the Alex Haley Room changed and the original use of the space ceased.

 

In 2018, former JMC student and President of The W.E.B. Du Bois Society (‘21), China Gross, began caring for the Alex Haley Room. Students began to casually use the room again to meet, host events, and study. In 2020, The W.E.B. Du Bois Society decided to take a stride forward to renovate the room in order to make it more comfortable and accessible for student use. After a  two year process, the space is complete and open for use when a Du Bois member is present.
