How the Soviet Jew Was Made

Thu, February 23, 2023 7:00 PM at Club Spartan (3rd Floor, Case Hall)

Sasha Senderovich will discuss his new book, How the Soviet Jew Was Made, published by Harvard University Press in 2022. In his book, Senderovich offers a close reading of postrevolutionary Russian and Yiddish literature and film that recast the Soviet Jew as a novel cultural figure: not just a minority but an ambivalent character navigating between the Jewish past and Bolshevik modernity.

*20 complementary books will be available for the first students, faculty, and community members who contact us at jewishst@msu.edu to read it before the event. The books will also be available for purchase and signing at the event.

This event will also be live-streaming on YouTube: Serling Institute for Jewish Studies (serlinginstituteforjewishs8606)
