Madison Alumnus-Founded Beta Sole Foundation Recognizes Current Students

April 28, 2021

Over a decade ago, JMC graduate Anthony Demasi Jr. (IR, PTCD ’96) founded the Beta Sole Foundation with the goal of helping underprivileged students achieve their educational and career-related goals through scholarships, skill-building, and mentorship. Today, the organization stands out for the range of ways it supports students beyond monetary awards. Awardees receive tailored assistance with applying to college and enhanced skill-building training from an array of expert guests. Their more formal Ambassador Program pairs motivated candidates with opportunities to support the foundation’s work in the community, offering individuals the chance to gain non-profit sector experience and build their resumes with valuable service that often leads to career outcomes.

Looking ahead to the future direction of the foundation, Demasi notes, “Our next goals are very lofty, as we are attempting to put computer coding classes in mid-Michigan high schools as for-credit classes taught by volunteers. We want to establish a larger endowment to provide more and larger scholarships, assist on a larger scale with college admissions and career placement, and offer a clear path for trade school with free tuition.” This year’s awards represent the third round of scholarships the organization has offered since being in Michigan, and recognized two current Madison students, including Amelia Burke (IR), and Emmah Coker (IR) with $2,000 scholarships.

Anthony’s background is in law and investment banking. He currently runs a private equity firm, teaches as an adjunct professor, works with the Creative Artist Agency, and serves as an admissions representative for Georgetown (all on top of his work with the Beta Sole Foundation). "Attending James Madison College was one of the best decisions I made," Demasi noted. "I valued my time there."
