JMC is Saddened to Announce the Death of Professor Anthony Olcott

Anthony Olcott

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Professor Anthony Olcott after a sudden illness last week. Professor Olcott contributed greatly to James Madison College, teaching MC 201 each year since his arrival, as well as elective courses on the Cold War and intelligence. Prior to coming to James Madison College, he was a faculty member in Russian studies for many years at Colgate University and served as a senior associate at the Center for the Study of Intelligence. He wrote a number of both fiction and non-fiction books.

The funeral will take place in his home state of Montana, and we will do a remembrance at JMC in the fall. In lieu of flowers, the family has graciously set up a fund in his memory to support students pursuing their interests in Russian affairs, the Anthony Olcott Russian Studies Scholarship Fund. Please contact Rocky Beckett if you would like to contribute.

The JMC community offers his wife, children, and grandchildren our deepest condolences and support.

Professor Olcott's obituary can be found here. His JMC memorial page, which will include information on his memorial fund, can be found here
