PTCD Job Talk - The Historical Decay of the Egalitarian Tilt of the Chicago Scho
Monday, February 11, 2019 3:00 pm
Speaker: Dr. Asbjorn Melkevik
Location: JMC Library (3rd Floor, Case Hall)
Doctor Melkevik will present his work on the historical decay of egalitarian values inside the Chicago School of economics. In 1932, Frank Knight, a founding father of that school, bewildered his audience with a lecture titled “The Case for Communism”. Six decades later, in 1991, Milton Friedman, the main representative of that same school, made a conference titled “Why Government Is the Problem”. Doctor Melkevik will argue that the rejection of the American welfare state is logically inconsistent with the main assumptions of the Chicago School of economics.
