Speaker: Professor Amanda Flaim
Location: JMC Library, 3rd Floor Case Hall
Please join JMC Assistant Professor Amanda Flaim for a job talk entitled "Paradox of Citizenship? Protracted Statelessness and Rights Violations in Northern Thailand".
Professor Flaim will present her work that examines the efforts of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to eradicate statelessness worldwide and why the issue of statelessness remains a significant problem for hundreds of thousands of highland people residing in the northern borderlands of Thailand. Drawing on multi-scalar ethnographic reserach and extensive survey data, Professor Flaim will argue that legalistic approaches to citizenship resolution can reproduce, rather than resolve, statelessness and its associated human rights deprivations.
