Lecture on "Reconfiguring Indian Democracy through Anti-Nuclear Activism" by Dr. Bhadra Haines
Energy development in India, in general, is fraught with institutional, epistemic, and sometimes physical violence, as fierce protests over dams and other mega infrastructure projects have often illustrated. Recent protest movements from both rural and urban sectors suggest that nuclear power is no exception to this trend, with local opposition arising to both uranium mining and the siting of new nuclear power plants. India's tumultuous nuclear landscape shows that designing and implementing a path to decarbonization while pursuing economic growth is not simply a technological or policy problem.
