Madison Academic Diversity Initiative

MADI (Madison Academic Diversity Initiative) aims to support underrepresented students during their transition into James Madison College, while focusing on creating a more diverse and inclusive environment, by providing a support network for the participating students in order to ensure their successful retention.

MADI Core Programs

Leadership Curriculum

Amazing opportunity to develop leadership skills, connect with yourself and peers in a meaningful way, take risks, develop stronger academic skills, and have FUN! 

Community Dinners

Held once per month these dinners will help build camaraderie and develop relationships. Mini-workshops include Professional Development; Research Preparation; Scholarship Opportunities, etc.


Community Service Project

Each year the MADI participants will choose and design two community service projects to take place within the Lansing community.

Diversity includes race, gender, language, citizenship status, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, nationality, ability status, political beliefs, ethnicity, religion, and so much more. DIVERSITY INCLUDES YOU!

2019-2020 MADI Registration

Funded through the Creating Inclusive Excellence Grant from the MSU Office of Inclusion, and operated from the James Madison College Office of Diversity Programming, MADI aims to serve as a social and academic support network for underrepresented students, which include: first generation college students, students with a low socio-economic background, students of color and/or those JMC students with a strong desire to connect with their peers in a meaningful way.  

MADI offers personal and professional development opportunities, topic focused community dinners with local alumni, faculty and the Deans, mid-term study tables, a community service project, leadership opportunities within the college and a Leadership Retreat, all FREE of charge to you! Space is limited for this amazing program, only 30 available spaces per semester! For more information email bentonam@msu.edu.
