2022 JMC Fall Welcome

Welcome to James Madison College! We are excited to have you join us in-person this fall. As part of your first few days on campus, we've created a number of Fall Welcome activities that we hope will inform, engage, and acclimate you to the JMC community.

    Sunday, August 28

    JMC Welcome Reception & Student Organization Fair, Club Spartan (Third Floor Case Hall)
    JMC faculty and staff will be on hand to meet you and pass out welcome packets. Visit with various JMC/MSU student organizations and find out how to get involved during your first year!

    Monday, August 29

    10:30 AM - 12:00 PM (EST)
    MSU Convocation, Breslin Center
    Official welcome event for all incoming Spartans. President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D., Provost Teresa K. Woodruff, Vennie Gore, Senior Vice President for Residential and Hospitality Services and Auxiliary Enterprises Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Service, and Mark Largent, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education & Dean of Undergraduate Studies will extend greetings to you during the event.

    JMC Colloquium, Wilson Hall Auditorium
    Dean Cameron Thies, Assistant Dean Jeff Judge, Assistant Dean of DEI Brian Johnson, JMC faculty and staff will provide background on what to expect during your first year at JMC, as well as review resources to help you be successful. JMC Alumnus Hayes Brown will discuss his experiences at Madison, as well as his career path post-graduation.

    LIVE IT! @ JMC Is an interactive workshop designed to introduce first-year students to concepts of diversity and civility.

    JMC Scavenger Hunt, Wilson Hall Auditorium
    Meet JMC staff in the Wilson Auditorium as you team up with your new classmates for an MSU themed scavenger hunt. Prizes will be awarded!

    Speak About It, Wilson Hall Auditorium
    Speak About It is a live performance that discusses healthy relationships through directly addressing issues of consent, sexual assault, and bystander intervention. The performance is inclusive of all genders, sexualities, and sexual choices.

    MSU’s Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular highlights hundreds of student organizations, departments, and programs, and sponsors. Please visit the Department of Student Life Fall Welcome website to learn more.

    September 7 - 21

    Fresh & Profesh – Zoom Webinars
    JMC's 'Fresh and Profesh' seminar is a mandatory, half-hour workshop for all first-year students meant to serve as an introduction to the services available through JMC's Career Services and Field Experience Offices. The webinar will discuss expectations about internships, career preparation, and social media presence.

    Education Abroad Preview, Club Spartan - Third Floor Case Hall
    In preparation for the Education Abroad Fair on October 7, join JMC Field Experience Coordinator, Max Olivero and Assistant Dean Jeff Judge for an overview of the opportunities to study abroad during your time at MSU. Attendance is optional, but highly encouraged.

    As a follow up to the virtual LIVE IT! @ JMC during last year’s Fall Welcome, this in-person interactive workshop is designed to reintroduce second-year students to concepts of diversity and civility as we prepare to return to campus.

    JMC Major Open House, Club Spartan - Third Floor Case Hall
    During last spring, JMC hosted virtual and in-person “Meet the Majors” events to introduce to you the various JMC majors/minors and faculty prior to selecting your major preference. This follow up to “Meet the Majors” is a great opportunity to get familiar with students and faculty from your selected major(s) in person. JMC staff from the Career Services Office will be on hand to provide information about internships and education abroad opportunities. Attendance is optional, but highly encouraged.
