Fresh and Profesh (First-Year Professional Development Seminar)

JMC's 'Fresh and Profesh' seminar is a mandatory, half-hour workshop for all first-year students meant to serve as an introduction to the services available through JMC's Career Services and Field Experience Offices. Students are asked to attend one seminar in the fall semester of their first year to gather information and discuss expectations about internship and career preparation.

Graduate and Law School Fair

Each fall JMC partners with MSU’s Career Services Network to host the Graduate and Law School Fair—an event that brings together graduate and law schools from across the country and students of all majors interested in learning more about the programs offered by the schools that attend. This event typically attracts several hundred institutions and 500+ students.

Alumni Career Day/Alumni Career Day Conference

Open to all JMC students, the college’s Annual Alumni Career Day (presented this year as a “conference-style” event) offers attendees the opportunity to explore a variety of internship opportunities, law/graduate schools paths, and career options.  JMC is proud to welcome alumni back to campus to talk about their work in an array of professional fields and to present programming on career-related topics.

Among other things, alumni have recently come back to JMC to discuss career paths in:

  • Business
  • Consulting
  • Education
  • Government/Government Relations
  • Intelligence
  • International/Cross-Cultural Affairs
  • The Nonprofit Sector
  • Law
  • Public Relations
  • Natural Resources/Environmental Affairs

Career Exposure Trips

Organized as both short (1-3 day) and long (5-7 day) endeavors, JMC’s Career Exposure Trips are designed for JMC students interested in exploring various professions, networking with employers and college alumni, touring employer facilities, and discovering new cities. Recent trips have included treks to Chicago, Detroit, and Washington, DC.
