Scott Dueweke, Alumnus

Scott Dueweke (IR '87) began his career in politics. First working in congressional and presidential campaigns in while attending James Madison College, Mr. Dueweke went on to intern for former Congressman Jack Kemp and work on his early presidential campaign. After graduating from JMC, he was appointed by President Reagan to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where he acted as press officer for the Office for Foreign Disaster Assistance during the Armenian earthquake and Hurricane Gilbert relief efforts. Mr. Dueweke left USAID to work as a lobbyist on behalf of international non-profit organizations and created an individualized online-based news service to serve them. He then went on to pioneer the use of the internet for foreign trade and information retrieval, becoming a recognized expert in e-commerce payments. During this period he also co-founded Freedom Flight International (FFI), a humanitarian organization which flew search-and-rescue missions over the Florida Straits rescuing Cuban "balseros". FFI also organized a relief mission to Rwanda during their crisis. Mr. Dueweke then joined IBM in 1996 as their global marketing manager for the Electronic Payments and Certification Group of the Internet Division which was later featured in Thomas Friedman’s The World is Flat. There, he worked with companies around the world in the area of secure internet payments and public key infrastructure. He spent the next several years working in electronic payments, which included building an IRS electronic tax payment portal.
Mr. Dueweke then began focusing on identity management issues with all levels of government including the intelligence community and federal and state homeland security efforts. He has established himself as a leader in various identity and security arenas, most notably working on contract to the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Energy helping to guide their response to Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 which mandated an interoperable smart card approach to security. Mr. Dueweke recently began working at Booz Allen Hamilton as a Senior Associate, Leading Booz Allen’s Identity and Access Management team. In this capacity he is working with the Department of Defense, civilian agencies and the intelligence community enhancing physical and logical security.
He is also currently serving as the Chairman of the Advisory Board of SkyLink USA, a leading provider of logistics in unsecured and hostile environments. In this role Mr. Dueweke has helped guide the company’s involvement in air logistics in Iraq and Afghanistan.
