State Representative Fred Miller was first elected in November 2004 to represent Michigan’s 31st District, which includes the City of Mount Clemens and the majority of both Clinton Township and the City of Fraser.

Throughout his career, Fred Miller has served families of Macomb County at all levels of government.  After graduating from Michigan State University's James Madison College, Fred worked as an aide to U.S. Senator Carl Levin, Congressman David Bonior and State Senator Ken DeBeaussaert in Washington, D.C., Macomb County, and Lansing.  Fred has worked on mission projects with the United Methodist Church in the Appalachian region and in Costa Rica, where he helped build a school, rebuild homes and construct an agricultural co-op.

Currently, Fred is a member of the House Appropriations Committee, serving as the Chair of the Subcommittee on Community Colleges.  In the 94th Legislative Session in 2007 - 2008, Fred served as Chair of the House Committee on Labor and developed the "Hire Michigan First" job creation plan that would ensure that when taxpayer dollars are used for economic development, it is Michigan residents and businesses that benefit first.  Fred also chaired the House Democrats' campaign committee for the 2008 elections that saw Democrats pick up nine seats, resulting in the largest Democratic majority in the Michigan House since the early 1900's.  In 2008, Fred traveled to China and met with government officials and business leaders to explore ways to attract Chinese investment to Macomb County and Michigan.

Fred Miller is a member of the Macomb County NAACP and he previously served on the Board of Trustees for the Disability Network of Oakland and Macomb, a disability-rights advocacy non-profit organization.  Each year, Fred Miller co-hosts a charity pancake breakfast to raise money and food for the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #154 Veterans Support Center in Roseville, Michigan.

Though he is actively involved with many legislative and community issues, Fred Miller is particularly passionate about issues regarding education.  The son of public school educators, Fred Miller believes it is a moral obligation as well as a constitutional mandate to provide a quality public education to all students.  Prior to serving in the Legislature, Fred was a substitute teacher in several Macomb County school districts.

Fred and his wife Jennifer are homeowners in Mount Clemens.
