MLK Jr. Event

The Honors College, James Madison College and the College of Engineering showed excerpts of Shakti Butler’s work to celebrate MLK Jr. Day in January, 2007. The discussion was called “Creating a Just Community: An Authentic Dialogue Across Differences. Reflecting on Whiteness”. James Madison Students along with faculty, staff and other students from the university discussed issues related to whiteness. Karen Pace and Dionardo Pizaña from MSU Extension participated as facilitators in the workshop. In addition, the office worked with MADhouse and W.E.B. Dubois Society to organize a MLK Day event. The event was an open mic forum including poetry, rap and other forms of artistic expression to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
