Internships in Istanbul, Turkey (Summer)

In conjunction with the MSU Alumni Association and the MSU Office of Study Abroad, James Madison College sponsors the MSU Alumni International Academic Internship program. We work with MSU alumni in Istanbul to identify internships, make housing arrangements, and act as on-site supervisors of the program.

About the Internship

A Madison education focuses on the application of knowledge and analysis to public issues, concerns and events, as well as on theoretical approaches to social science. As a result, Madison students learn to think critically and analytically about public affairs, to evaluate policy options, and to understand decision-making. Madison believes that a liberal education is incomplete without a chance to test and apply these abilities in professional settings.

As a city situated literally at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, and in an Islamic society undergoing rapid Westernization, Istanbul offers an unmatched set of opportunities for professional internships that explore those political, cultural and economic intersections. MSU students have interned in historical foundations, banks, in marketing positions with private companies, and at hotels. Internship lengths can vary, depending on the requirements of our Turkish hosts and on student availability.

If you are interested in completing an internship in a fascinating city while experiencing an incredible diversity of nature, culture, history, beliefs and ideas, an internship in Istanbul, Turkey may be the perfect fit for you!

Credits Available

All MSU Alumni International Academic Internships offer credit, but since the academic arrangements for these internships are handled by individual MSU colleges and departments, the number of credits, type of curriculum and academic requirements vary. James Madison College students complete MC 400 and MC 401, thus fulfilling the College’s Field Experience requirement

Most internships secured through this program will not be paid; however, local hosts and organizations may help to defray associated costs such as subsidized housing, transportation costs, and/or food expenses.
