Fresh and Profesh (Freshman Professional Development Seminar)
JMC's 'Fresh and Profesh' seminar is a mandatory, one-hour workshop for all incoming JMC freshmen meant to serve as an introduction to the services available through JMC's Career Services and Field Experience Offices. Students are asked to attend one seminar in the fall semester of their freshman year to gather information and discuss expectations about internship and career preparation.
Alumni Pizza Night
JMC’s Alumni Pizza Night brings together current Madison students and JMC alumni working in a variety of fields for an interactive, dynamic networking event. Students have the opportunity to learn firsthand about a wide array of potential career paths, make connections with alumni working in areas of interest, and practice their networking skills in a casual, comfortable setting. Most Madison students make it a priority to attend this annual event every year they’re here.
Graduate and Law School Fair
Every fall JMC collaborates with MSU’s Career Services Network to host the Graduate and Law School Fair—an event that brings together graduate and law schools from across the country and students of all majors interested in learning more about the programs offered by the schools that attend. This event typically attracts several hundred institutions and 500+ students.
Student-Alumni Career Day
Open to all JMC students, the college’s Annual Student-Alumni Career Day offers attendees the chance to explore career paths, law and graduate school options, and even internship opportunities—all while networking with dozens of college alumni who come from around the country to offer their expertise and insights.
This event features a number of moderated alumni panels organized by subject area. Recently, alumni came back to JMC to discuss career paths in:
- Government/Government Relations
- International/Cross-Cultural Affairs
- The Nonprofit Sector
- Public Relations
- Natural Resources/Environmental Affairs
Student-Alumni Career Day typically wraps up with a reception that gives students and alumni the chance for some one-on-one interaction and socializing.
Spring Break Career Exposure Trips
Organized as both short (2-3 day) and long (5-7 day) endeavors, JMC’s Spring Break Career Exposure Tours are designed for JMC students interested in exploring various professions, networking with employers and college alumni, touring company facilities, and discovering new cities. Recent trips have included treks to Chicago, Detroit, and Washington, DC.
