JMC Alumni Career DayConfirmed Alumni Panelists for Career Day 2008 Julie Burtch – Habitat for Humanity Julie Burtch (SR '04) started fundraising for non-profit organizations when she was ten years old and joined Children's Express, an international youth journalism organization. Back then, she was just a cute kid that Rotarians couldn't refuse. She never thought fundraising could become her career until after she graduated from JMC and found an AmeriCorps position with the Reo Town Commercial Association in Lansing , Michigan . At Reo Town , Julie honed her grant-writing skills, took on public relations and marketing tasks, and created an annual membership program. After one year as a Community Development Coordinator, she became their Executive Director, managing all member relations, fundraising, programming, and special events. She began working for Habitat for Humanity Lansing in early 2007 as their Development Director. In this capacity, she has raised over $300,000 for the organization through grants, special events, major gifts, business sponsorships, church donations, and personal solicitation. Her job also encompasses media relations, website maintenance, capacity building efforts, and community outreach. Julie is an active volunteer in the ceramics program at Reach Studio Art Center , a non-profit community art space in her Lansing neighborhood, and has joined the Leadership and Practice Committee of Ingham County's Power of We Consortium. She is pursuing a Master's Certificate in Fundraising Management through the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University .
