Alumni Career Day 2008

FAQ’s

What is Alumni Career Day?
Alumni career day is an event designed to both provide you with information on the many ways you can put your Madison Degree to use, as well as an opportunity for you to meet and make connections with Madison Alumni who are working in a wide range of careers.

The event is set up as a series of panel sessions that include an opportunity to learn about various careers, how alumni successfully put their Madison degrees to work in a number of fields, as well as a built in opportunity that allows students and alumni to interact with one another.  The event closes with a student alumni reception that allows even more time to interact and connect.

When is alumni Career Day?
This year Alumni Career Day is on Saturday, February 2nd, from 2-4:30 PM on the third floor of Case Hall.

Why Should I go to Alumni Career Day?
1st year students– Great opportunity to start thinking about what you can do after James Madison and meet alumni who could potentially help out in the future with internships, jobs- maybe even find a mentor! Curious about what you can do with a Madison degree (and, given the number of sophomores and juniors who come into my office with this on their mind, I know there are a ton of you out there!) Come meet a number of alumni who are doing some really cool things with their degrees!

Sophomores – Started looking for internships? Maybe some of these people can help out! Not sure what you want to do with your Madison degree? Find out what others before you have done. Remember, it's never too early to begin making the professional connections that could help out down the road! (Also see the second half of the 1st year response above. Save yourself an hour of talking to Chris next year!)

Juniors –– Internships? Field Experience? Make the connections now to help out landing these positions, and who knows, the same connections could help out next year as you begin looking for a job! (Also see the last half of the 1st year response above. Save yourself an hour of talking with Chris later this semester!)

Seniors – Network, network, network! These three words need to be key as you search for work next year.  Going to graduate school?  Make the connections now that will assist you when you finish grad school.

For all Madisonians - Remember - it’s not only who you know that matters.  Go the second step (and beyond – you know of six degrees of separation?). The friend of friends can  also be helpful when it comes time to find a job!!
