Job Duties:  Provide parent orientations to Refugee Parents with school-age children, conduct and lead weekly parent groups, provide cultural adjustment training to teachers and staff, act as a cultural resource for teachers and staff, deliver quarterly cultural awareness presentations to schools, develop a written resource guide for students and their parents, refer clients to ESL classes, collaborate with the Youth Education Specialist regularly, and keep accurate and up-to-date records.

Job Title:  Foreclosure Intervention Support Specialist                         

 

Reports To:  Program Manager        Status:  Full Time AmeriCorps Volunteer 

 

Location:  Based in the downtown Lansing office; working out of Lansing and East Lansing offices and other potential sites as necessary in the tri-county Lansing area of Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties. 

 

Position Summary:

The primary function of the position is to provide foreclosure intervention and default counseling support services to Center for Financial Health counselors and to homeowners.  Answer phone inquiries and schedule appointments for counselors.  Conduct initial client interview in order to triage cases and obtain necessary information and documentation.  Assist with community outreach and client education in workshop settings with an emphasis on money management and foreclosure prevention.  Other duties include related general office work, client follow up, and assisting with reporting requirements.     

 

Essential Duties:

 

Foreclosure Intake & Triage

·         Answer incoming calls for foreclosure counseling and complete basic client intake information over the phone or in person.

·         Answer basic questions on foreclosure issues that do not require an appointment.

·         Work with the homeowner to compile all necessary documents for the  foreclosure counseling session.

·         Determine homeowner’s urgency of need for counseling services and work with counselors to ensure clients receive assistance.

·         Assist counselors and staff in scheduling appointments for homeowners.

·         Work with counselors to identify and develop the best strategy and action steps for the homeowner achieving their desired outcome.

·         Establish and be familiar with referral networks for additional services and resources to assist clients and families.  Act as a liaison with local organizations for cross-referrals.

·         Learn to use Home Counselor Online and input client data as needed to support the work of the counselors and to facilitate data collection as required by funders.

 

 Marketing & Outreach     

·         Attend community meetings and events and promote foreclosure counseling services.

·         Develop marketing materials for dissemination.

·         Assist with outreach to develop partnerships with other community organizations, schools, government agencies, businesses and individuals under supervisor’s direction.

 

 Education:  Assist with our existing educational workshops and plan and conduct a variety of other educational opportunities for both homeowners facing foreclosure as well as the community at-large, including:

·         Explanation of the foreclosure process and resources available;

·         Financial literacy trainings;

·         Credit/debt management;

·         Homeownership.

 

Implementation of 90-Day Pre-Foreclosure Negotiation Law

·         Education and outreach to homeowners and community organizations to promote the new law;

·         Assist housing counselors in communicating with the lender so that the homeowner is able to take advantage of new benefits under the law.

 

 

Desirable Training and Experience:

·         Education or experience in personal and group communication principles for counseling or crisis management.

·         Experience or formal training in adult education.

·         Experience and knowledge of lending and mortgage products and processes, the foreclosure process, credit scoring models and loan approval requirements.

The Network is seeking to establish a federal arm to our state and regional work. In service of that, the Network has established a Federal Connections Task Force. The Policy Coordinator will staff the Federal Connections Task force and be housed at NWF but will serve the interests of the whole network.

Primarily, the Policy Coordinator will work with the Task Force to:

  • Develop a regional climate and energy strategy for Midwest engagement in federal policy development.
  • Provide the REAMP network with timely and actionable information on federal issues and activities — breaking news/ urgent campaign requests of particular relevance to the region, and highlighting emerging issues of relevance to the region where the network may be able to have particular influence.
  • Help identify and communicate precedents, best practices, messengers and messages from the region and our network groups that are useful, actionable, and influential in the federal context – and connect this regional input into the federal debate.
  • Work with other RE-AMP staff members to develop the systems and communication methods necessary both to mobilize and support REAMP groups to act on federal information and campaigns in the short term, and to robustly implement climate and energy policies now and in the medium term.

Must have a B.S. in natural resources or similar area of study. At least 4 years of relevant experience is required and a deep interest in environmental or global warming policy, with strong preference given to those who have at least three years experience with federal policy. Experience in organizing a network or coalition around a specific campaign, engaging state-level advocates in a federal campaign and working in the RE-AMP region and knowledge of regional demographics and politics is desirable. The successful candidate should have strong oral and written communications skills, strong computer skills and the ability to produce original qualitative and quantitative policy analyses.

Congressional Budget Office

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the Congress. The Health and Human Resources Division provides the Congress with analyses in the areas of health, income security, education, and employment. Recently, the division has analyzed options for increasing the number of people with health insurance, altering Social Security with the aging of the baby-boom generation, and making use of private health plans in Medicare. Other studies have examined consumer-directed health plans, prescription drug pricing, the effects of medical malpractice reform, as well as changes in low-wage labor markets and the role of immigrants in the U.S. labor market.

To qualify for the Health Policy Internship, ideal candidates should:

Work well with senior staff members, take initiative to gather suitable data to address policy questions and complete assignments in a timely manner.

Have strong quantitative and writing skills, be adept at using spreadsheets and basic graphics software and desire to work on issues of current legislative interest to the Congress.

Be pursuing a graduate degree in economics, public health, health policy or related disciplines with the desire to work in the analysis of the economic and budgetary impact of health related issues.

This is a part-time position in Representative Jones Lansing office.  This person will provide assistance to the Legislative staff.  Responsibilities will include answering telephones and taking messages, filing, database entering and word processing.  This position will involve legislative research and various writing assignments on behalf of the Representative and his staff.  Hours are negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications:

Previous office experience, letter writing skills and knowledge of the Legislature and the legislative process is a plus but not required.  Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is requested.
