Fall Interns- The Marijuana Policy Project is hiring fall interns to work in our State Policies and Federal Policies departments. These are unpaid, part-time internships, with class credit available. Interns work approximately two days per week and have the chance to play a responsible role in a successful nonprofit organization. Internships are available in two departments: (1) MPPs State Policies department, which works to reform marijuana laws on the state level through direct lobbying and by inspiring lobbying at the grassroots level by individuals and allied organizations, and (2) MPP's Federal Policies department, which works to reform marijuana laws on the national level through direct lobbying and grassroots outreach. Candidates should expect a fast-paced, professional environment and should have excellent oral and written communications skills, strong Internet research skills, and be meticulous, organized, and detail-oriented. Director, Congressional Relations for Conservation and Energy Policy -To advocate on behalf of Farm Bureau policies related to conservation programs (e.g., CRP, CSP, EQIP, WRP), with an emphasis on implementation of programs reauthorized by the 2008 farm bill.  To advocate on behalf of Farm Bureau policies related to US energy policy, including: development of domestic supplies in Alaska and the Outer Continental Shelf; policies related to ethanol and biofuels, including implementation of the RFS; and related policies (such as measurement of indirect land use affecting biofuels and standards relating to low-carbon fuels).  To assist and provide support to state Farm Bureaus to help them in serving members that participate, or wish to participate, in such programs.  To handle other issues as assigned.  Reports to the Director of Environment and Energy Policy Team. Represent Farm Bureau and advocate the organization’s policy positions to Congress, the Executive branch, the media and other organizations. Present Farm Bureau views in speeches before appropriate groups, public forums, and Farm Bureau meetings. Develop and implement long- and short-term action plans that lead to the accomplishment of Farm Bureau’s policies on conservation programs and other issues as assigned. Initiate and coordinate Farm Bureau policy implementation projects which involve lobbying, public relations and grassroots activities. Conduct assigned responsibilities in a fiscally responsible way. Maintain an expert level of knowledge on assigned issues and develop a reservoir of non-Farm Bureau knowledge that supports Farm Bureau’s issue positions. Keep abreast of all pertinent legislative and regulatory matters and serve as the resource person for Farm Bureau members and staff, as well as congressional members and staff on assigned issue areas. Maintain good working relationships with appropriate personnel in assigned federal administrative and regulatory agencies through regular contacts. Keep abreast with rulings and rulemaking proceedings and prepare analyses and/or statements on these matters. Establish and maintain positive relationships with members of Congress and staff and communicate Farm Bureau policies and positions on legislation being considered. Work with appropriate congressional committees, through regular personal contacts, to communicate Farm Bureau views. Build and assume leadership roles in private sector coalitions to expand external support for Farm Bureau’s policy objectives. Establish and maintain good working relationships with state Farm Bureau leadership, both volunteer and staff. Work with state Farm Bureaus in visits to Washington and make presentations at meetings called by the states. Serve as a resource person for Farm Bureau's information programs and assist in preparing articles for Farm Bureau News. Organize and coordinate meetings and conferences in appropriate subject areas as needed and serve on special committees as required. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of policy experience.  Work in the fields of agriculture or energy is preferred. Clinic Defense and Research Intern- NAF's Clinic Defense and Research Department works with member clinics to improve security and assist clinic staff in dealing with threats and violence. The department also works with law enforcement officials to improve relationships between law enforcement and clinics, deter violence against abortion providers and pursue and prosecute those responsible for committing acts of violence. In addition, the department produces a monthly newsletter on incidents of violence against clinics and maintains a database of incidents of violence and disruption. Gathering and organizing information on anti-abortion extremists, Entering and compiling statistics on violence and disruption against abortion providers, maintaining database of law enforcement contacts, assisting in a wide range of projects as needed.
